The Brutal Wall Ball Workout That Smacked Me In The Face!

Nobody talks about the part that comes after you finally get what you wanted. Let me explain.

I dragged my tired butt to the 6:30 AM class this morning.

As I walked up, I heard the pumping bass and the coach yell "TIEMPO!"

The 5:30 AM crew was hitting the floor, soaked in sweat.

If you’ve never done CrossFit training, it’s hard to imagine that feeling.

Work got done.

The little angry voice in your head goes silent. No politics, no drama, no bills. Just a glimpse into another world.

Today’s menu:

EMOM 30:00 - Every Minute On The Minute

⏱️ 10 Cals Echo Bike
⏱️ 15 Wallballs
⏱️ 100m Run
⏱️ 20 Jumping Air Squats
⏱️ Rest

Coach asked me something in Spanish.

I caught the context, shrugged, and said "Veinte."

I grabbed the 20-pound wallball.

As a masters athlete, I usually use the 14-lb ball, but the CrossFit Open programmed the 20-lb last year and it destroyed me. I have 4 months to get ready in case it appears again.

Today, we suffer.

Tres... dos... uno... VENGA! 💥

My focus today was moving well on those heavy wallballs and keeping my glutes engaged on the squats.

On round 1 of the wallballs, the ball started to spin strangely on the descent. It’s shaped like an egg with a split seam from years of action.

It smacked me dead in the nose, sending a cloud of sand into my eyes, nose, and mouth.

What did I do?

The next rep.

Coughing and spluttering, I finished the set with 9 seconds to spare and headed out for a recovery-paced run.

You just go deep inside yourself, count, and breathe.

6 rounds later, it was over.

90 heavy wallballs done on tired legs.  I felt satisfied.

We high-fived, took a group photo, and called it a day.

For many of us, it’s the best hour of the day.

If you're trapped in that 14-day "burn-and-crash" cycle, the solution isn't to push harder next time.

You don't need more discipline. You need a strategy that actually respects your age, your schedule, and your recovery.
